After Luckett’s Brittany drove me up to Point of Rocks, Maryland which had a cute little train station and not much else. I hopped on Google maps to see what was nearby and realized we were really close to Harper’s Ferry. I asked Brit if she was up for it and because we like historical things and are nerds she was totes in.
We hit some pretty bad traffic but put Dolly Parton on so it was ok. That whole area leading to Harper’s Ferry was beautiful with the mountains and the river winding though there. There were lots of people tubing and rafting, looked like a blast.
Driving through the towns and Boliver and Harper’s Ferry, WV felt very patriotic due to all the old homes decorated with flags and ready for the holiday weekend. The semi circle American flags were everywhere. I’m going to get one for my porch, so southern and summery.
We tried to find parking in downtown Harper’s Ferry but ended up having to drive to the National Park lot and riding a shuttle to downtown. It was definitely a moment of feeling like old touristy ladies. Hey might as well embrace it fully I suppose.
Many of the buildings were full of Civil War re-enactors. We walked into one building unknowingly and were accosted by a girl telling us tales of eggs and milk or something like that. Re-enactors always make me smile and secretly, maybe not so secretly, I’ve always wanted one of those big hoop skirt dresses. We also decided our dear friend Phil should just move here when he’s old and become one of the re-enactors. I would definitely bring my kids to see him.
We walked up the hill and saw a shop that advertised 99¢ tacos. It ended up being someones house because the bathroom definitely had a shower with shampoo in it. How do we find these strange places?
Since Harper’s Ferry is along the Appalachian Trail there were some hikers playing music on the street. We walked by one who was playing Brit’s favorite Ryan Adams song. Our friend Tyler told Brit this area is the “emotional halfway” of the trail. He hiked from Georgia to way up north so I’m sure this area was a nice break.
The drive back to Brit’s house was really pretty. Crabcakes and corn on the cob for dinner was delicious. So thanks Linda!
